Advocate Aurora Caregiver Connect Health operates offices in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Downers Grove, Illinois. As of 2021, the system encompasses 26 AAH hospitals and over 500 healthcare institutions, employing a workforce of 75,000 individuals, including 10,000 salaried physicians. This healthcare system was created through the merger of Advocate Aurora Caregiver Connect Health Care, based in Illinois, and Caregiver Connect Aurora Health Care, based in Wisconsin. AAH is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
The history of Caregiver-Connect dates back to 1984 when St. Luke’s Medical Center and Good Samaritan Medical Center formed a partnership known as St. Luke’s Samaritan Health Care. In 1987, the organization was renamed Caregiver Connect Aurora Health Care. Later in 1988, the Milwaukee Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) joined Aurora Health Care after establishing a partnership with Aurora. Between 1992 and 1995, five new hospitals were added to the Wisconsin healthcare system: Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center (1992), Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital (1993), Hartford Memorial Hospital (1993), Two Rivers Community Hospital (1993), and West Allis Memorial Hospital (1993).
In 1995, Aurora Health Care acquired two additional hospitals: Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, which was previously owned by Walworth County, and Trinity Memorial Hospital in Cudahy, which had been under the ownership of Catholic Health Corp. since 1958. The acquisition of Lakeland Medical Center cost approximately $16 million. In February 1996, Burlington Memorial Hospital merged with Aurora Health Care, assuming the hospital’s liabilities and debts as part of a settlement agreement and contributing to an uninsured fund.
Caregiver Connect Aurora inaugurated its first hospital in Kenosha in February 1999, situated west of the city. In June 2000, Aurora opened a new facility to replace Two Rivers Community Hospital.
